Exercising – The Solution and the Problem

I remember the very day I decided I was going to become a model. I was looking through some fashion magazine of my girlfriends and realized that these models are no different than me. I could be just like them…maybe even better!

So I went to an audition and the first thing they asked me to do was take my shirt off. I did and was immediately scratched off their list when my hairy beer belly popped out and bounced a couple times.

Determined to make it in the business, I decided I needed to get chiseled abs. I grabbed a picture of Brad Pitt in "Fight Club" and told myself I was going to have abs just like that in a few months.

I did over 300 sit ups every single day for the first few weeks. Strangely, nothing happened. So I added leg lifts and crunches to that and was spending over thirty minutes a day working out my abs! But still...nothing changed!

My stomach was still protruding and uglier than ever.

Working out is hard work and can be extremely frustrating when you look at yourself a few weeks later and realize that nothing has changed except the fact that you’re tired all the time, hungry all the time, and it hurts to walk up the stairs. I’m sure you can relate to this.

Nevertheless, I still exercised.

I did some research and learned that "cardio" burns fat. So I started doing all the cardio I could to “burn the fat” and all the weight training to “add the muscle”.

I was really feeling like a pro!

But things still weren’t going well for me. My body was still chubby and I still had like 35% body fat just hanging off my bones.

Finally after four months of intense exercising I decided it wasn’t enough and I would incorporate the diet AND the exercise together like most doctors would “recommend.

For the next few weeks I was doing good. I lost around two pounds of fat a week. But then something happened. It just stopped. My fat burning just quit and I was stuck at 210 pounds for months.

Frustrated, I exercised more, ate less, and tripled my efforts. But nothing happened. I still lost NO weight!

So I decided to go online and look up some “quick” fixes for this little problem of mine. I ran into a diet that is based on drinking only lemonade for ten days! Desperate, I tried it. By the end of this diet I was miserable, angry, and depressed like never before.

So…I went to a buffet and ate. And ate. And ate.

Even more depressed, I decided I would go on a seven day “tuna only” eating plan. I lasted for two days and then on the third day I ate like crazy. Then I tried starting on the “tuna only” eating again for seven days. I lasted for two days again and then binged again!

I was miserable and very disappointed with myself for being so awful at this “fitness” thing. After four weeks of this “cycling” frenzy, I decided to weigh myself and see how much weight I gained.


When I looked at the scale, I had lost 10 pounds!

Confused and a little shocked, I pulled out my body fat calipers and measured my fat % levels. To my surprise, I had actually lost 5% of my body fat!

I tried this whole “cycling” frenzy again, but this time I incorporated healthy eating and a more controlled eating plan.

When I measured myself in four weeks, I had lost 9 pounds! This thing was actually working!
